Fairy Orchid - Caladenia latifolia

From Pink Fairy Orchid
September 1 is the first day of Spring here and I went on a little walk to mark the day.  My reward was a small grove of these orchids that I found in the Banksia Garden.  Once again, like the Greenhoods, these ground orchids are less spectacular than the tree orchids that most of us are used to, but they are pretty and well worth a long look.

You may find "pink" fairy orchids that look more white than pink, but ours are distinctly in the red family and may even be considered purple by some.  In any case, they are typical of our terrestrial orchids being perched atop a slender stem and in the case of this species with multiple flowers on the same stem.
